Alchemy Today & Fun Facts: Alchemy part six

The closest thing that we have to alchemy (while being accurate) is physics, astronomy and chemistry. Physics is the study of the 118 atoms that we know of today (the elements) while chemistry is the study of their combinations. Astronomy is the study of the stars, planets and other astronomical matter. 

Fun Facts

  • Alchemists used symbols to keep their work secret (these symbols are like the abbreviations we use for elements.)
  • Alchemists are also referred to as the first chemists. 
  • Abu Gibber made complicated recipes, so complicated that no one could understand his recipies. His name, Gibber, is thought to help form the word ‘gibberish’ for ‘nonsense’.
  • Isacc Newton is known for doing alchemy along with other scientific work. 
  • Alchemy started in Egypt and China around the second century B.C., then traveled west into Europe.

Alquimia hoy y hechos divertidos: Alquimia parte seis

El cosa que es el más cercano a alquimia hoy es física, astronomía, y química. Física es el estudio de los 118 átomos que semos sobre hoy (los elementos) cuando química es el estudio de sus combinaciones.  Astronomía es el estudio de las estrellas, planetas y otro asunto astronomical.

  • Alquimistas usaban símbolos para mantener su trabajo secreto (esos símbolos son como los abreviaturas que usamos para los elementos.)
  • Alquimistas son refieren a los primeros químicos.

Multilingualism means someone or something knows two or more languages. Some synonyms for multilingualism are plurilingualism, polyglot and polylingual. Be careful around the words ‘bilingual’ and ‘trilingual’, though. Bilingual means you know exactly two languages, white trilingual means you know exactly three languages. To truly be multilinguistic, you need to be able to function (read, write, and speak) well in two or more languages. These languages do not have to be the same fluency as one another, you can be better in one language and still be multilinguistic. Another use of the word ‘bilingual’ is in the insult for immigrant children, bilingual children. This usually refers to Mexican or Latino immigrants who immigrate to the US and speak Spanish.
